During all of our EOTO presentations, there was a lot of good information about different types of technology that were presented. Some of the most interesting ones to me were the radio, YouTube, and CDs.
I think the history of the radio was super interesting because it was such a big invention for its time. It was an important source of communication during World War I and World War II. Along with that, it was also a sort of stepping stone for future technologies like Bluetooth, cellular service, and many other technologies. It was also one of the first ways that news could be transmitted directly into people's homes.
YouTube was also very interesting because it is a massive multimedia website that is used by a huge majority of the population for entertainment and to share their experiences. YouTube is easily one of the most approachable platforms for people who are trying to get into content creation or make themselves known. It is also a place where a lot of people get general information. This can be for academic purposes, learning about what is going on in the world, or just for straight entertainment.
I think the CD was also super interesting. It became the dominant form of digital audio in the 1990s. It pretty much fully replaced vinyl records and cassette tapes and allowed listeners to skip tracks or go to wherever they wanted to listen. It also had crystal-clear, uncompressed digital sound and didn't wear down like your stereotypical vinyl record. It also paved the way for computer CD-ROMs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs. As a game designer, I also found it interesting that CDs became a primary format that many games were stored on, with consoles like the GameCube, Wii, PS3, and Xbox using discs to store games.
Overall, I really enjoyed hearing my classmates talk about different technologies and their impact on the world. I think it was interesting to go more in-depth about things that I would say I had a general idea about, but I definitely learned a lot of different things about some of these technologies.
