One thing that is vital to the world around us and is the catalyst to everything is the computer, it is what allows us access the world wide web and communicate across the world. But the computer didn't just puff into existence overnight. They were developed over hundreds of years as people tried to find a way to automate calculations, store info, and solve complex problems. An important guy named Charles Babbage who was an english mathematician who is often called the “father of the computer” because he was the inventor of the analytical engine in the 1830s. His design of the machine was never completed during his lifetime sadly, but his design included many ideas that would become vital parts of modern computer’s
The earliest electronic computers were the ABS and the ENIAC, the abc was built in 1942 by John Vincent Antonasoff and Clifford Berry. The ABC was an electrical computer that had vacuum tubes to digitally compute binary math and boolean logic. Then there was the ENIAC invented by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania and was completed 1946. It was huge and took up 1’800 square feet and had a whopping 18,00 tubes. People ruled that the abc computer was the first digital computer, but people still consider the ENIAC to be the first computer.Computers were revolutionary because they allowed people to compute things and information at a faster pace than humans could, also allowing access to future advancements like the web. Computers could perform calculations within hours while normally it could take people days. And as they advanced they spread into homes and schools, and businesses, and then became a vital part of life.
Computer's interesting change calculations and how fast they were computed, they also changed the way communication with each other was affected. Before computers on the internet, communicating with someone across the world took months or weeks. But today someone can send a message to a person and they almost receive it instantly. Computers also make people have countless amounts of access to information from their homes. This has changed almost everything in the world, education, businesses, and even how people socialize with social media.
I will however say, computers have also definitely created some problems in the world. One major problem is privacy. With the rise of social media a lot of personal information is stored online. Hacking, viruses, scams, and identity theft are a big problem in the world now. New inventions like malware protection had to be created to counteract these things. Another problem is many people are put out of jobs because computers can just do them quicker. With the rise in Ai and how good it is at particular tasks this is going to become worse and worse. It's going to become harder for people to find work and it will heavily affect society and the overall workforce of the world. Even with these problems though, computers have become the most important technology in modern society.
